Durango - an unexpected pleasure

The Basque town of Durango, located in Vizcaya on the way towards Eibar and the San Sebastian is an unexpected pleasure. Traditionally known for its metal industry and locally for being the other Basque town to be bombed during the civil war (no-one painted a picture about it so it is forgotten), it sits at the foot of some impressive mountains and boasts a pleasant old quarter. Durango Town Hall is particularly worth a look. as is the Santa Ana ArchDurango is easily accessible by car, bus or EuskoTren from Bilbao.
